IAN HUDGHTON was first elected to the European Parliament in November 1998 following a by-election victory in North East Scotland. He is currently a member of the Parliamentís Committees on Fisheries, Economic & Monetary Affairs, and a substitute member on Internal Market & Consumer Protection. Re-elected in June 2004, Ian is President of the European Free Alliance group of MEPs and a Vice President of the 42 strong Greens/European Free Alliance.

A member of the Scottish National Party since 1968, lan was a successful election agent for the late Allan Macartney MEP and John Swinney MSP. He had a distinguished political career in local government as a member of the SNP administrations in Angus District and Tayside Regional Councils, and was the first Leader of the SNP administration in the unitary Angus Council. He also served for a spell as one of Scotlandís representatives on the EU Committee of the Regions.
